Omotola Iredia. Omotola Lawal Iredia, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tolitotee Fashion House, is a fashion designer who has put more than 15 years in the business and art of making people more fashionable by cutting fitting clothes for them.
Omotola, who started the business based on her passion for designing eye popping dresses for people while she was very tender in age, entered the business because it was her parents’ trade. Initially, according to her, her parents did not support her dream of becoming a fashion designer because they were of the opinion that the trade was not as promising as a tertiary education.
However, by parading a proficient vision Omotola was able to turn around the fashion designing business to a big firm where she is now calling the shots as the CEO of Tolitotee Concept Fashion House.
Fashion Designing is a job she has great passion for right from when she was just 12 years old. Though her parents loved to see her pursuing career in medicine or law, but her passion propelled her dream to become a fashion designer of repute. She would beg her parents’ apprentices to engage her in all manner of errands concerning the trade just for her to grasp every aspect of the business.
Today, that zealous dedication has emerged her a fashion designer of note now having dozens of people learning and others working in her fashion designing trade producing showstopping attires for all sex and age.
Omotola said she was never ashamed pursuing a career in fashion designing unlike many of her peers aiming to become doctors, lawyers or nurses. The Tai Solarin College of Education graduate said she was known by her colleagues and teachers right from her days in secondary school up to her tertiary education time to be a gifted fashion designer and most were her clients because of her impeccable designs.
Omotola, while advising every up and coming fashion designer, said they just have to let their dream be driven by their passion for the business. To her, her passion for the trade takes precedent over the dream itself.
She seems to be saying that without her passion for the job she would not have come this far despite her dream. “Calm down and identify your passion for the job. Because without passion you cannot achieve much from it. In Nigeria presently we are facing a lot of challenges, but if you are passionate about the fashion designing job you can make a lot from it.”
On whether the job does not interfere with her home, she said she just has to find means to strike a balance to ensure one doesn’t suffer for the other.
Her kind of designs are the ones that promote decency. She said as a person she does not like flaunting her body and that actually informed most of her designs.
Omotola expresses immense gratitude to her parents for grooming her right from her childhood days to love, learn and make a career in fashion designing.
