As Nigeria celebrates her 62 Independent Anniversary on Saturday, a multitude of Labour Party faithfuls and members OBIdient Movement in the Ife Federal Constituency, Osun state participated in a solidarity walk which took off from Enuwa square through different parts of Ile-Ife to the Mayfair roundabout in support of the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Addressing newsmen before the procession, leader of Labour Party in Ile-Ife who doubles as Coordinator of the rally, Mr. Olamide Awosunle charged Nigerians on electing the right set of leaders via the forthcoming 2023 general election.
“We need new set of leaders, we cannot continue with the set of rulers that take the country as their personal entitlements, thinking that Nigeria only belongs to them alone.
“No one would do this except we youth, therefore let all hands be on deck to deliver Nigeria from those that have mismanaged the nation, for we are tired of this hardship.
“Our motive more importantly is to let people know that Nigeria needs new set of leaders. We can not continue with the set of people who have taken Nigeria as there personal entitlement. People that feel Nigeria is their own and continue to mismanage Nigeria.
“We want to send messages to those leaders that Nigerians are tired of them and also to let people know in their various communities that we now have a party that can deliver Nigeria from the mess we are in now.”
Awosunle said.
He also stressed that in the past, party used to choose the candidates and force him on the people to rule them, but this time around, Nigerian cannot condone such again.
“Nigerians have chosen Peter Obi and we are ready to support him, it is not the usual leadership practice, for Peter Obi is the people’s choices, voice and definitely would not disappoint them.
“We don’t need a Godfather as a leader, but we need a leader as a leader. Peter Obi is a leader, not a political father or son to anybody.
“When he was a Governor of Anambra State, he stood out excellently, to be the most prudent governor among them all in his own time.” He added.
Olamide Awosunle who officially presented Mr Peter Obi to the Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II during his courtesy visit to the Yoruba Head of monarchs barely a week ago analysed that Peter Obi managed the resources of his state judiciously as governor of Anambra state and was the best of his kind who delivered and transformed his state with high integrity.
